Addiction was a term used to describe a devotion, attachment, dedication, inclination, etc. Nowadays, however, the term addiction is used to describe a recurring compulsion by an individual to engage in some specific activity, despite harmful consequences to the individual's health, mental state or social life. This category is set aside for activities and persuits that may not be so obviously recognized as an addiCtion. Third parties, friends, relatives, co-workers may better recognize the signs and symptoms of the addiction than the addicted. They say that addictions that do not effect others is an excessive compulsive, but what if its self destructive, or effecting others but only indirectly or a subtle way?
