This category contains articles that deal with disorders of the endocrine system. The endocrine system is an integrated system of small organs that involve the release of extracellular signaling molecules known as hormones. The endocrine system is instrumental in regulating metabolism, growth, development and puberty, tissue function, and also plays a part in mood. The field of medicine that deals with disorders of endocrine glands is endocrinology, a branch of the wider field of internal medicine.

There are also articles that relate to nutritional and metabolic disorders. Metabolic disorders are a medical disorders that affect the production of energy within individual animal cells. Most metabolic disorders are genetic, though a few are "acquired" because of diet, toxins, infections, etc. Genetic metabolic disorders are also known as inborn errors of metabolism.

In general, the genetic metabolic disorders are caused by genetic defects that result in missing or improperly constructed enzymes necessary for some step in the metabolic process of the cell.
