Weight Management

obese.jpgWeight Management is the science and art of keeping the height weight ratio of a person withing a healthy range. This range is called your ideal weight. This is such a simple thing to say and yet a difficult goal to not only achieve but to maintain.

Why is it so? Well it isn't in of itself. The process is quite simple and the formula is so uncomplicated.

If you are below your ideal weight consume more calories than you burn. In english - eat more exersize less. Conversely, if you weigh higher than your ideal weight, consume less calories than you burn; eat less exersize more.

In regions of the world where physical activity on a per capita basis is high relative to the calories consumed weight management is not a problem. I regions where source of food is scarce underweight is in prevalence.

The CDC states that for adults, overweight and obesity ranges are determined by using weight and height to calculate a number called the “body mass index” (BMI). BMI is used because, for most people, it correlates with their amount of body fat.

  • An adult who has a BMI between 25 and 29.9 is considered overweight.

  • An adult who has a BMI of 30 or higher is considered obese.

Why is this so and what are the challenges to remedy this is the focus of this category. ~
