Medication
"Take two aspirin and call me in the morning." Medication, also referred to as medicine, is usually a drug or any other substance used to prevent or cure disease or to relieve pain, anxiety or any form of perceived discomfort, such as hunger. Medication is often used to mean the act of administering medicines or drugs.Medication can be divided into several categories; preventative, curative or symptomalogical remedy, that is to say, it doesn't treat the root cause of the proble but the symptoms, as in pain relief. Medication is a double edged sword. Not always but often, medications have side effects, or effects not intended when prescribed. Sometimes it is known but the probability of occurance and the severeity fo the side effect out weigh the theraputic effect of the medication prescribed. The combination of medications can also create undesired side effects. The prescribing physician in concert with the dispensing pharmacist try to minimize the deliterious effect of such reations. For this reason any prescribing physician and dispensing pharmacist should be aware of all medications a patient is taking. This category will focus on the issues of both, prescribed and over the counter medications; The uses, accidental misuses and the potential tragic consequences. Deliberate misuse of medications is discussed under section ADDICTION Discussions about the conceptios, misconceptions about the drug industry. |
