In Alternative Medicine Wellness is generally used to mean a healthy balance of the mind-body and spirit that results in an overall feeling of well-being.
Traditional Medicine refers to Wellness generally to the state of being healthy. The World Health Organization's NATIONAL MENTAL HEALTH POLICY 2001-2005 defines "Health" as a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity
The LaLonde report1 suggested that there are four general determinants of health including human biology, environment, lifestyle, and health care services.[3] Thus, health is maintained and improved not only through the advancement and application of health science, but also through the efforts and intelligent lifestyle choices of the individual.
1The LaLonde report is a 1974 report produced in Canada entitled A new perspective on the health of Canadians. It is considered the first report acknowledged by a major industrialised nation to state that health is determined by more than just biological factors. As a result of this, it proposed a so-called field of health. This health field represented health as being dependent upon four related aspects - biology, environment, lifestyle and access to healthcare services. Furthermore, it emphasized lifestyle and personal responsibility and found that determinants of health existed outside of the health care system. It was also fundamental in identifying health inequalities.

This section is devoted to articles, videos, news and comments relative to the elements necessary to acquire and maintain the state or Health and Wellness. In other words, things that you ought to do, pursue, and aspire to to achieve optimum health and well being, as apposed to things people actually choose to do which we have categorized in LIFESTYLE. By way of example, an article on plastic surgery on a nose for post burn reconstruction would come under the Wellness category, where as rhinoplasty to reshape the nose would be more appropriate under the Lifestyle category.~
